"I decided to become an orthodontist in the seventh grade when I had to prepare a career paper."
The road to becoming an orthodontist started while Dr. Montano was paying his own way through junior college at San Bernardino Valley College. After receiving an academic scholarship he transferred to UC Riverside where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biology. Next came four years of dental school at UC San Francisco where Dr. Montano graduated with a Bachelor in Dentistry and Doctor of Dental Surgery. He was also honored as a University of California Regent Scholar. To become an orthodontic specialist he attended the University of Washington and earned his Master of Science in Dentistry.
Dr. Montano has been practicing orthodontics since 1987. In 1988 he left Los Angeles and bought his orthodontic practice in Bakersfield. He married Melinda Montano in 1990, and the Montanos enjoy traveling all over the world - even the additions of their daughters, Hali and Chloe, have not slowed them down! In Dr. Montano's spare time, he takes pleasure in raising and riding horses, gardening, and tending to his Koi pond.
